They want us to hand it over to them (oil market) as being most efficient:

Saudi Prepared to RAISE Oil Output Despite Weak Prices

No.  Saudis are our greatest allies in the Mid East just behind Israel.  Though the way Obama/Kerry are treating with the Israelis that could be reversed.  And I am not so sure there is a US-NATO protection thing going on.  All our wars, Desert Storms, were no-NATO wars.  NATO got involved in Afghanistan.   I don't thing the Saudis are threatening to hike production. They are just trying to maintain their market share.

How much of this is also driven by ISIS selling oil for $20-40 a barrel?

I don't think they sell enough volume to count.

Welcome to the Mid East/NoAfr. Syria is composed of a majority of Sunni and small minority of a sect of Shia (Al'lo'wi) rules the whole place for 40 yr..Saudis bought alot of property in Syria probably as a means of supporting local sunni...The Assad family has been in power for 40+yr and were butchers in order to keep the locals in line -  I saw it -

ISIS/ISIL has arisen from the sunni majority and went more radical amongst the sunni "rebels" in the early phases - 3 years ago. - They have expanded easterly from the Aleppo-Damascus corridor destroying almost anything out of revenge - remember eye-for-eye approach -

ISIS and the Kurds (Iraqis) are getting some crude out and yes the low prices reduced the cash flow for Iraq and Kurds (therefore Shia) and ISIS (therefore radical Sunnis) so the collateral damages of OPEC glutting the market works on local, regional, and international markets...

BUT ISIS wasn't their original target - try Iran, Russia, NoAfrica for market shares and Nigeria/Venezuela for not complying with their quotas...

I don't think they really worried about LA, TX, OK, and ND - they know what is going on here...ARAMCO has an office in Houston...they are not blind or deaf...someone probably subscribes to this list also...

Definitely more going on here than meets the eye.

RNK wrote: "Identifying ISIS as a Sunni movement is a little too broad. You need to get a little closer if you want to form a more accurate picture. ISIS as is Al Qaeda, Al Nusra in Syria, Al Shabab in Somalia or Boko Haram in Nigeria all follow the Wahhabi ideology which is a subset of the much larger Sunni sect. The core of the Wahhabi ideology is in Saudi Arabia and that what gives the Wahhabis in Saudi Arabia such leverage over all those terrorist groups and what makes it so easy for members of any of those groups to move to other group seamlessly. While income is very important, what’s more important is getting a steady stream of recruits. To do that, the Saudi donations to various Wahhabi groups around the world established several decades ago remain crucial regardless of direct sources of income reaching those groups."
