The well was drilled june 15th, 1901 in the "Mamou Prairie" in Evageline, close to Jennings Louisiana. It was called the Clement #1 and was drilled to a depth of 1000 ft. It didn't produce at this depth so they went to 1700 ft and got a little oil. They gathered more drill pipe and at 1810 feet it blew out sending a gusher 100 feet into the air. The well "sanded in", cloging itself with sand. If it could have been cleaned and kept flowing it would have produced over 7000 barrels a day. It finally had to be abandoned because it kept filling with sand.
