Jindal Concerned about EPA Regulation

From his press release

"Unfortunately, proposals to regulate greenhouse gasses by the Environmental Protection Agency could threaten our continued economic progress. Last week I wrote to the Administrator of the EPA in Washington to object to their new proposals, which would have a chilling effect on refining and production capability in Louisiana and force employers to reduce their workforces or even possibly move their businesses to other countries. We need sensible… Continue

COTTON VALLEY AND LOWER COTTON VALLEY UNITS WITH DEPTH DEFINITIONS INCLUDING THE HAYNESVILLE FORMATION

For some time I have been aware that there were Drilling & Production Units formed as other than HA (Haynesville) Units but which none the less included the HA zone in their depth definition. In the Summer of 2008, the Commissioner of the LA. Office of Conservation issued an order forbidding the inclusion of the HA zone in a unit with sandstone formations. Those units already approved were grandfathered. I posed a question to the LOC staff requesting to know how many of those units…

Obama, Shale Gas, & China

Don't know about you, but I've anticipated the day that Obama would speak to the issue of shale gas and now he has.

"The two Presidents announced the launch of a new U.S.-China Shale Gas Resource Initiative. Under the Initiative, the U.S. and China will use experience gained in the United States to assess China’s shale gas potential, promote… Continue

Help out the Little Guy: Reserve your Shallow Rights!!

Once upon a time, before the Haynesville Shale introduced Northwest Louisiana to the concept of a resource play, the search for oil and gas was conducted by many smaller companies. These smaller companies would drill the more traditional prospects, looking for that hidden resevoir of oil or gas. Now, with the HA shale, large companies have aquired enormous leaseholds and effectivly push out the small independents.

I have watched as these small independents have had to go elsewhere in… Continue

I arrived at Congressman John Fleming’s office, which is located in the Longworth Building, around 3:30 and took a seat. Soon thereafter, Fleming came out of a meeting. Of course, as the way things go at Congressional offices, Fleming had to run down to the floor to cast a vote. So after a brief intro and a handshake, he was gone as… Continue

Jane Austen's guide to leasing

To get a PROPER lease you need to think like a woman a few hundred years ago. You'll have to wait until they come to you and then you can't appear to be interested. Actually something short of total disdain is called for maybe even the honest threat that you will go UMO. You will still need to flutter your fan though. That way when you get asked to the ball, you know that they will actually dance with you when you get there. They won’t have your intent and then not follow through with their… Continue
