Two additional new Shelby Co. Permits this week 10/23/09 - Devon & Cabot

1) Devon has been approved by RRC on 10/22 to drill the Whitton 1-H well in the A.Gates survey / Abstract A-251.

This permit is approved for 18,500' and lists targets in three formations a. Center Haynesville b. Stockman Cotton Valley and C. Wildcat - for "exploritory test well only".

Very curious about what they might be looking for underneath the Haynesville and Cotton Valley?????

Also interesting to see this well be targeted for production, as it seems to be the furthest yet approaching into that area of NW Shelby County that had previously been written off.

NW Shelby county was confirmed for Haynesville/Bossier Shale last year by NFR in the W. Ferguson survey at the Mitchell Trust GU well 1A (#31360) To find it on the RRC map go to the county & survey then you'll have to zoom in on the survey because NFR had to move 50' for the 1A to be drilled per the RRC. The reason I know about this well is because I was in communication with Mr. Mitchell during this period, answering questions and giving him updates etc.. (I live between this well and the CHK well in the J. Loose survey across the county line in Rusk county. Anyway here's a link: http://webapps.rrc.state.tx.us/PDQ/quickLeaseSubmitAction.do?submit...
P.S. The Formation Record of The Mitchell Trust NFR well 1A (vertical) proved 946' of Bossier Shale and across the county line into Rusk county in the J. Loose survey, the Chesapeake well proved 840' of Bossier Shale. Here's the link (if it still works) of the Formation Record of The Mitchell 1A:

Has anyone heard (or seen) anything further on Whitton #1? I am curious to see what the exploritory 'Wildcat' drilling results are... almost as much as seeing another Haynesville/Cotton Valley come in. It would be really nice to see them repeat the performance of their well on Quirk. How do you go about seeing a wells status as they are drilling it and what they find, or will this all kept secret by Devon?
As of 12-18-09, H & P rig #396 was drilling. The well spud on 10-20-09. This is as accurate as the reports given to Baker Hughes and may not be up to date.
Thank you jffree1.... the family has three wells going right now with Devon, three with O'brien (all shut in-unprerfed), two with Southwestern, and one with Cabot (shut in - unprefed)... all spud, however we have no way of monitoring what is going on out in East Texas. The company's are all close mouthed about any disclosures and the only information is from those like you.
Happy that I have helped in some small way. Uh... you don't need another "Cousin" do you, LOL?

Just kidding. You all are in a very fortunate position and I am happy for you. And, be thankful that the operators are not selling your gas at current price. Merry Christmas.
Another Cousin, I don't know... We have found that I have relatives that I did not know I had since all of this started... they keep moving down the 'food chain' as they are acknowledged as legitimate heirs by my Great Aunt.... She gets 1/3rd right off the top... I get 1/16th of whatever happens, some of the others will get 1/32nd and so on....

I figure I will keep the 'first' royalty check and frame it!

Hey, thanks again to you and all our fellow Shalers!!!
Considering that that 1st royalty check will be generally be 2-3 months of production from the highest producing period of the well you'll probably want to scan a copy of that check to frame and cash the actual check.

Best of luck to you and your family in the coming year.
Hmmmm?
Yeah, either that or tell them I didn't get the first one and have the company generate another check... that way I would still have an 'original' to hang... a scanned copy would be like hanging a copy of a Rembrandt on the wall. I figure most of the family will run to the bank with their checks... I figure I will just buy more fishing gear, something for my boat, or plot out another trip to Alaska.
Bill R, as of 1-22-10 the Whitton 1H is NOT drilling anymore. Thought you'd like to know...
I've heard that they have completed drilling but not sure about frac'ing on the Whitton and are also now starting the drilling/spudding for the the Adams 1-H.
